Buck T Edwards Blames It All Squarely On Mexico

For Buck T Edwards, it’s been a long, cold winter so we thought we’d give you a taste of warmer things to come with his song “Blame it on Mexico.” The song is off the album release for ”Your Inner Redneck” which features Pip Walter on fiddle, Dale Holden on Pedal Steel and Mike Schools on Lead and it is sure to make you want to call your travel agent and book a flight to Cabo San Lucas today!

We asked Buck for an update on the how the New album was doing, “Great sessions, great performances and the finish line is in sight. We’re at the mixing and mastering stage and I can’t say enough about the great musicians that have helped me out thank you all.”

According to the European Country Music Association, Buck’s original Christmas song “It Doesn’t Seem Like Christmas Without You.” Hit #10 on the USA and Canada top 30 chart for the week of December 23. Buck would like to thank all the European DJ’s for their support and help in achieving this recognition. This song also featured at #10 on Wildhorse Entertainments Christmas Top30 Download Chart for December, making this song one of the Top 10 best Christmas songs featured on Wildhorse Entertainment for 2011. With a new album due out this month, it looks like a really bright future in store for Buck T. Edwards 2012!

Amazing Music at the St. Lawrence Arts Center

The show kicked off at 7:00 pm with Buck T. Edwards, accompanied by Pip Walter on stand up bass and Mike Schools on lead guitar. Buck's easy stage presence and great sense of humor diffused an early technical glitch with the sound system and put the audience into a relaxed and receptive mood. Back on track with equipment working he proceeded to blow everyone away with "A Little Morning Rain" and "Blame it on Mexico." Buck's smooth vocals, clever lyrics, and surprising three part harmonies with Pip and Mike on backup vocals establish him as act not to miss. - Peter Alexander MSA

We don't get a whole lot of cowboy-hat country in Portland — Travis James Humphrey would be an exception — so Buck Edwards is something of an enigma. Is his twangy, '50s-style rockabilly and pop country completely on the level?

On the surface, songs like "Call a Cowboy" ("he'll always do what's right . . . to get you through the night") are delivered with a straight face and full heart. But when you have three tracks on one disc with "redneck" in the title, you have to wonder if we're in Jeff Foxworthy territory here.

Edwards walks a fine line. "Redneck Paradise" doesn't go over the top at all (as, say, Paranoid Social Club's "White Trash" does), and a place where "there's beer in the cooler and meat on the grill/Enough for my buddies and a few more still" doesn't sound all that unappealing.

Edwards is helped by the studio talent that backed him while at Acadia Recording. Eddie Dickhaut (East Wave Radio, and a number of other local projects) is a talented drummer that sets up a fine swing, and Dale Holden of the McCarthys on pedal steel, Andrew Russell (WOW, the Molenes) on bass, and Pip Walter (the Piners) on lap steel and backing vocals are all pop-country-rock veterans who know what they're doing.

This stuff is a little goofy, and intentionally corny, but it works because Edwards is clearly having a blast and is actually believable, even if he's got to be taking the piss. I'm positive I hear him stifle a chuckle at times.
